Seats and Cabin

Here is some useful information in relation to purchasing seats for your upcoming flight.

Our seat specifications

Seat pitch is defined as the space between a point on one seat and the same point on the seat in front of it. Aer Lingus seat pitch measurements will vary depending on aircraft type.

  • Our transatlantic fleet of aircraft Airbus A330, A321neo LR and A321XLR all contain lie-flat Business Class seats and are 22 inches wide.
  • Our Economy class seats on all Airbus aircraft have a pitch range of 31–32 inches and a width of 17–18 inches.
  • Aer Lingus Regional routes operated by Emerald Airlines using ATR aircraft have a seat pitch range of 29–31 inches.

Seatbelt extensions are available on all our aircraft. They can't be pre-booked but if you need one, just let a member of cabin crew know when you're boarding. Passengers requiring a seatbelt extension unfortunately won't be able to sit at an exit row.

Purchasing an extra seat for comfort is possible by booking online or by calling your local reservations office. Charges include the relevant fare for the extra seat as well as any relevant taxes, charges and administration fees. Baggage allowance doesn't apply for additional seats purchased on flights within Europe.

Please note that on transatlantic flights, Economy Class armrests do not fully retract into the seat-back. Therefore, purchasing an extra economy seat may not allow you to sit or lay across multiple seats. Business Class armrests are fully retractable.

Infant seats

Infants aged 0–5 months old must sit on an adult's knee and be restrained by an infant loop belt. Infants six months to two years old must also use an infant loop belt if sitting on an adult's knee.

Infant seat belts are available on board for babies under the age of two. Just let us know if you need one when boarding.

You may buy a seat for the infant at the appropriate fare where the infant is aged more than 6 months and less than 36 months and can sit in an approved, forward facing car seat provided by you.

Bassinet Seats are offered for transatlantic flights only, however they are subject to availability, require pre-booking and are unfortunately not available for infants with confirmed seating. More information on travelling with infants can be found here.

Disability assistance

We're here to make your flying experience as comfortable as possible. For information on wheelchair requirements including aircraft door dimensions, aircraft seat accessibility and adult/child harnesses, please visit our Disability Assistance section.

In order to plan the assistance for your unique travel needs please let us know your requests at time of booking or no later than 48 hours in advance by filling in our Special Assistance Request Form.

Seats for musical instruments

For musical instruments that are larger than the permitted carry-on baggage size, e.g. a guitar, that you wish to carry with you in the cabin, you must purchase an additional (window) seat for the instrument online and normal charges and taxes will apply. More information on travelling with musical equipment can be found here.

Seats for pets

It is not possible to book a seat for your pet. We only accept dogs as service animals for carriage in the cabin of our aircraft. See Travelling With Pets for more information and how to book your pet for carriage on Aer Lingus flights in the aircraft hold. For more details on travelling with a trained service dog see our disability assistance section.

We'll endeavour to honour all advance seating requests, and generally you will be allocated the seat you have pre-booked. However, in certain operational situations we can't always guarantee a particular seat. We reserve the right to assign or reassign seats at any time, even after boarding the aircraft. This may be necessary for operational, safety or security reasons.

Seat fees are non-refundable. In the event that a seat fee is paid and the seat purchased or an equivalent seat (sold at the same price) isn't available on your day of travel, you may in that instance claim a full refund of the seat fee using our Refund Request Form.

Online seat selection is not possible if your booking was made through a third party such as a travel agent or a tour operator, i.e. was not made directly on aerlingus.com. Please contact the third party to investigate your options.
